Kyambura Gorge sits inside Queen Elizabeth National Park, a dramatic, steep-sided rift valley canyon carved by the Kyambura River. Locally nicknamed the “Valley of Apes,” it’s the only place in Uganda where you can track chimps in an isolated riverine forest gorge surrounded by open savannah — a striking contrast in scenery.

What makes Kyambura different:

• Smaller chimp community — Kyambura’s population is much smaller than Kibale’s, so sighting rates are lower, generally around 50–60%.
• Dramatic, unique landscape — descending into the gorge from the surrounding grassland feels like stepping into a hidden world, with thick vines, fig trees, and echoing bird calls.
• Great add-on, not a standalone destination — because it’s part of Queen Elizabeth National Park, most visitors combine a Kyambura trek with game drives on the Kasenyi Plains or a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel in the same trip.
• Shorter trek, shorter time commitment — treks usually last 1–3 hours, making it easy to fit alongside other QENP activities in a single day.
